Our practice periodically performs an audit of our billing department cost and performance every 3-5 years.  In my role, I typically have led the effort to identify the consultants used to audit our practice, reviewed the audit results, and participated with implementing any recommendations received.  In my 22 years with the practice, I have audited our in-house billing department 5-6 times.  After identifying Ms. Fremer to perform my most recent audit, I was struck with her detailed data request and the amount of effort that she spent prior to coming on-site to prepare for the areas of the practice where she felt a deeper look may be warranted.   While on site, she met with staff and successfully reviewed all aspects of our operation.  After her on-site interviews and analysis, coupled with the analytics work she performed prior to coming on site, Sharon created a detailed report that outlined both our department’s successes and any areas where modifications could improve performance and/or mitigate costs.  I was extremely satisfied with the audit service provided to MRA and recommend Ms. Fremer’s services to anyone who is looking to have a fair and detailed review of their revenue cycle functions.

In September 2023, Advanced Imaging Alliance (AIA) had an unexpected opening in revenue cycle leadership.  My first thought, "call Sharon Fremer to brainstorm."  As I had hoped, Sharon agreed to take on the task of managing our revenue cycle as our interim Director of Revenue Cycle, working on behalf of two of our three divisions:  Huron Valley Radiology and X-Ray Consultants.  

Sharon did not waste any time getting entrenched in our revenue cycle details.  It was an impressive display of diligence, communication, and hard work.  She became very well acquainted with all aspects of our revenue cycle, including leadership of our internal team.  The most interesting part of taking over interim leadership is Sharon had to become front and center on an upcoming transition we were going to make with our RCM vendor.  She took over the RCM bidding process and helped us make a decision on the right partner for AIA.

 

Once we made that decision and started mapping out the project, Sharon wisely brought in another team member from Fremer Group, Michelle Sibbio.  This turned out to be a great move for AIA (and Sharon) since they teamed up together to tackle the implementation.  They did a masterful job of helping us transition from Change Healthcare to Zotec Partners.  Ironically, this all occurred during the time when Change Healthcare experienced a massive cyber-attack, which only added to the challenge for all of us.

 

Sharon and Michelle never skipped a beat through all of this.  We have since hired a permanent Director of Revenue Cycle and after Sharon finished helping me to onboard this person, her time with AIA ended.  One thing is for certain, if the need ever arises for revenue cycle project work, my first call will once again be to Sharon.

We were in the planning stages of migrating to a new outsourced billing and collection vendor and were just coming off a total RIS/PACS migration when we decided to take advantage of the timing to review and improve our business process and workflows that support our Revenue Cycle Operations.  We knew that an outside perspective would benefit us the most.  We turned to Sharon Fremer with Strategic Radiology.  We had been introduced to Sharon during our on-boarding with Strategic Radiology and were impressed with her depth of experience.  Sharon came aboard and provided deep analysis of our current Revenue Cycle operations and made valuable recommendations outlined in her final report.  It was beneficial that her report detailed not only her recommendations, but also accurately described our current operations.  We now have a roadmap as we make the recommended changes to our department after managing a successful migration to our new billing and collection vendor, MBMS.

I have had the privilege of working with Sharon Fremer at three different companies.  In each setting she was a standout rockstar.  I heartly recommend her for any situation where you need a thoughtful and detailed approach to drive a performance improvement or implement change in an operation.  Sharon is a very versatile talent. 

 

Our first partnership was where she led the standardization of 50+ hospital-based physician billing companies that we acquired in a roll-up.  Sharon led field leaders in identifying best practices and then implementing the procedures across the country.  She was then promoted to lead a massive technology initiative to modernize our systems. 

 

At the next company, which was a physician practice management company, I brought Sharon in to lead our operations and technology.  She quickly built a high performing team and standardized operating practices.  She can work at all levels of a company from the front-line teammates to the C-Suite.  She is able to synthesize key finding and build buy in to drive change. 

 

In my most recent company, we had a very challenged billing environment where we provided complex clinical services to over 800 hospitals.  Our billing practices were antiquated, and the systems outdated.  Sharon came in and partnered with the team to diagnosis all the specific challenges we faced and built a prioritized list of improvement opportunities that we implemented. 

 

Sharon is a results-oriented leader.  Each time she enters a situation, she measures her success by the positive impact she is able to achieve.  And lastly as a bonus, she had a delightful personality and a great sense of humor.  I am forever thankful for how she made me look good (or saved me) in a multitude of situations.
